Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, situated on the eastern side of Naqsh-e Jahan Square, is recognized as one of Isfahan's most prominent historical landmarks.

This mosque was built by Shah Abbas I in honor of Sheikh Lotfollah, a prominent Shia scholar of the time.

Sheikh Lotfollah, who was originally from Jabal Amel (Lebanon), was invited to Isfahan by the Shah and resided there. In response to the Sheikh's migration to Isfahan, the Shah ordered the construction of the mosque for the Sheikh's prayers and teachings.

The renowned architect of this magnificent building was Ostad (Master) Mohammad Reza Isfahani. Within the mosque, there are inscriptions in marvelous calligraphy of Alireza Abbasi, the famous calligrapher of the time.

The exquisite tiled mosaics adorn this eleventh-century mosque, placing it among Isfahan and Iran's most beautiful historical sites.
