Shahid Mohammad Montazeri Power Plant

Shahid Mohammad Montazeri Power Plant is located in the northwest of Isfahan, next to the Isfahan Oil Refinery, in an area of 2.2 million m2. This power plant consists of eight 200 MW units, with a production capacity of 1,600 MW per hour in total.

The contract for the construction of four units of this power plant was concluded in 1978 between the Tavanir Company of Iran and the Technopromexport Company of the former Soviet Union, and its installation operation began.

Units one and two were commissioned in 1984, unit three in 1985 and unit four in 1989. The expansion plan for the power plant, whose contract was concluded in 1989 with the same company, includes four units similar to the previous ones. Units five and six were connected to the national electricity grid in 1998 and units seven and eight were added in 1999.

Based on the directive of the Ministry of Energy, the Shahid Mohammad Montazeri Power Generation Management Company was established in 1995. This company was privatized through a public auction according to the Article 44 of the Constitution and transferred to the Persian Steel Company.

The Persian Steel Company was established as a private joint-stock company with goals such as exporting and importing, supplying and distributing various permitted goods, providing commercial services for companies, participating in domestic and foreign tenders and auctions, collaborating with private and productive sectors in production processes, obtaining representation rights for domestic and foreign companies and carrying out technical, civil, and construction activities that lead to job creation in all production, industrial, commercial, and trading sectors.

This company has also constructed and exploited the Zavareh Combined Cycle Power Plant. One of this power plant's notable features is utilizing dry cooling tower systems (Heller), which has minimized its water consumption.
