Isfahan Province with 568 thousand hectares of agricultural land, which comprises five percent of the province's area and three percent of the country's agricultural land, as well as various weather conditions, is capable of producing all kinds of agricultural products, so that pomegranates, dates, and pistachios are cultivated in hot and dry zones of the province, almond and walnut in cold and mountainous regions, and all kinds of grain and seed products are also grown in temperate and cold zones.

The province's total arable land amounts to about 485 thousand hectares. In years considered normal in terms of rainfall, about 70 percent of these lands are dedicated to the cultivation of crops such as different kinds of cereals, legumes, fodder crops, vegetables, and summer crops. The annual production of crops in the province under normal conditions is about 4.6 million tons, and the total garden lands of the province are about 85 thousand hectares. The total garden and greenhouse production under normal conditions is also estimated at around 886 thousand tons.

Isfahan Province's Achievements in Agriculture and Animal Husbandry

  • Isfahan has the first rank in milk production in the country. 5200 tons of milk are produced daily in Isfahan Province, ranking first in raw milk production in the country. 44% of animal husbandry units of the province are traditional and 56% are industrial.
  • Isfahan has the third rank in red-meat production in the country, amounting to 72 thousand tons per year.
  • With 1800 poultry units and an annual production of 205 thousand tons of white meat and 183 thousand tons of eggs, Isfahan Province has the second rank of production in these fields in the country.
  • Isfahan ranks first in the production of ostrich meat (1300 tons of ostrich meat annually) and turkey (about 14 thousand tons of turkey meat is produced in 128 breeding units in the province).
  • Isfahan ranks third in greenhouse cultivation in the country. The total area of greenhouses in the province is 2500 hectares, of which 2300 hectares are dedicated to summer and other kinds of vegetables and 200 hectares to various types of flowers and plants, including branches and open-space and apartment kinds. In a space of 2300 hectares, 350 thousand tons of summer and other kinds of vegetables are produced, and in 200 hectares, Isfahan Province produces 30 million plant vases, while from the total greenhouse production, 80 thousand tons are exported. The highest amount of production in Isfahan's greenhouses is related to sweet pepper, yielding around 70 thousand tons in an area of 700 hectares, followed by apple (60 thousands tons) and tomato, of which 20 thousand tons are produced within 100 hectares of land.
  • Isfahan ranks fifth in the production of medicinal plants in the country. Also, it has a large capacity for producing and exporting various medicinal plant species, such as rose flower, saffron, shallot, green cumin, black seed, Shirazi chamomile, galbanum and stinking assa. Some of these plants, such as thyme, tragacanth, shallot, saffron, rose water, galbanum, malva, barberry and tarragon are exported to several countries, such as Kuwait, Spain, China, India, Germany, England, Canada, and Japan.
  • Isfahan ranks forth in the number of honey bee colonies and third in honey production in the country (7600 tons per year).
