Isfahan Oil Refinery as one of the largest refineries in Iran and the country’s first refinery in terms of the production of petroleum products was opened in 1975 in a land of 340 hectares and was put into operation in 1979. This industrial unit was registered as Isfahan Oil-Refining Company in the Administration for Registration of Companies and Non-commercial Institutions in Tehran in 1991.
The feed of Isfahan Refinery is crude oil from the Maroun Oil and Gas Company in Ahvaz, which enters the refinery after passing 430 kilometres and is refined in special units, supplying a total of 25 percent of the country’s petroleum products. The specialized units established in this refinery include distillation units; units for liquid-gas production, viscosity reduction, catalytic conversion, and Hydrogen production; Isomax units; gasoline-making complex; special solvents units; water, electricity and steam units; Amin units; and sulfur-recovery units. Isfahan Refinery produces gasoline, kerosene, gas oil, heating oil, liquid gas, crude oil, special solvents, sulfur, airplane fuel, and other petroleum products.
In 2007, due to its high profitability and productivity as one of the pioneering oil centres, this company was subject to article 44 of the constitution and was handed over to the private sector by offering its shares in the stock market under the symbol of Shepna.
In advancing the country’s economic goals, since 2015 this company has played a significant role in reducing pollution in 17 provinces of the country by setting up and fully operating the gasoline complex and producing 12 million litres of Euro 5 gasoline per day.
Isfahan Oil-Refining Company, in the continuation of its development and progress, put the operation of the diesel-refining unit under the name of Southern Refinery on the agenda and since 2023 this company has made another great success with the daily production of 20 million litres of Euro 5 diesel, which has contributed to the reduction of atmospheric pollutants and the protection of the environment.
With the initiation of new projects and the launch of six subsidiary companies, Isfahan Oil Refinery has further grown and now continues its activities under the name “Isfahan Petro-refinery Holding Company.”
Under the new management, Isfahan Petro-refinery Holding Company has also shifted its approach from production-oriented to project-oriented, and each of the newly established companies strive to further the development of the value chain of the holding with great originality.
Isfahan Petro-refinery Holding Company has also tried to make use of external capacities, signing memoranda of understanding with research institutes such as Isfahan Science and Technology Town and Isfahan University of Technology.
Isfahan Petro-refinery Holding Company continues on its growth path with great vigour, aimed at improving its profitability for the shareholders and creating new jobs while at the same time preserving the environment.
