Isfahan University of Medical Sciences

Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, or Medical University of Isfahan (MUI), was founded in 1946 and has grown to one of the largest public universities of the country today. It has 10 schools, about 1000 academic members, 43 research centers, 3 research institutes, 18 research journals and 37 affiliated hospitals. Over 70,000 students have graduated from this university up to now; and around 10,000 students are studying in more than 80 majors in different educational degrees at this university currently.

This university is consisted of seven vice chancelleries, including the Vice Chancellery for Education, the Vice Chancellery for Research and Technology, the Vice Chancellery for Food and Drug, the Vice Chancellery for Health, the Vice Chancellery for Treatment Affairs, the Vice Chancellery for Logistics and Personnel Affairs, and the Vice Chancellery for Students and Cultural Affairs. The international students' affairs are managed by the International Education Center, and there is also an office for employee benefits and services at the university, which provides certain services to the university staff.

The expansion and coordination of the international relations of this university is done by the Bureau of International Affairs, which can be contacted through international@mui.ac.ir. It is to mention that the joint academic activities of Iranian medical universities with Germany are also coordinated by the above-mentioned bureau.

Location wise, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences is in adjacency to the University of Isfahan in the southwestern corner of the city of Isfahan. It lies on the Mount Soffeh foothills. Hence, the university enjoys a panoramic view of the city. The faculty buildings are situated among the spectacularly landscaped green areas of the university campus.

Today, the university campus is located on Hezar-Jerib Avenue in Isfahan. Isfahan University of Medical Sciences is served by high-tech public transportation with excellent bus services to various parts of the city, and the subway line runs along the university with two stations serving the campus.

Facilities

This university provides comfortable accommodation, various dining halls, sport facilities, libraries and health services to its students and foreign guests:

- There are three independent dormitories for international students, which accommodate around 300 both gender students. The dormitories are well furnished with suitable facilities and have free transportation facilities to the campus.

- The dining halls, namely Central Self-Service Canteen, Persian Gulf Dining Hall, Ghadir Restaurant, Yaas Restaurant, and Zeitoon Restaurant, serve premiere offerings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The featured menu includes the best-quality ingredients of favorable Iranian and international foods.

- Indoor and open-air sports are both available on the university campus and at the nearby dorms. One can choose his/her favorite activities among 22 indoor and outdoor sports, including body building, swimming, gym exercises, ping-pong, basketball, volleyball, handball, badminton, football, fitness, cycling, martial arts, shooting, aerobics, soccer, track and field, tennis, and more.

- International students get health insurance coverage and also benefit from the health services that are provided by the student health centers.

- There are libraries within the university campus, which are well equipped with advanced facilities and high-end technology. The services they offer include librarian advice, information literacy, collection services, reference search, reading areas, etc.

- A range of exciting activities and a set of annual events are held by the International Education Center (IEC) for international students, which bring our many diverse communities together. These include award ceremonies, welcome day, Christmas, Yalda, Nowruz, all visited by dignitaries and heads of the university. Outdoor recreational activities include visiting "Bagh-e Golha," "Naqsh-e Jahan Square," and "Soffeh Mountain."

- Persian language classes are offered to international students by IEC in order to equip students with the language skills needed for their studies. The Language Learning Center, where the classes are held, has a rich assortment of courses to help students reach their educational, professional, and personal goals.

International Communications and Activities

♦ Signing memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with universities in other countries to: 

   - Implement joint research projects and secure international grants. 

   - Facilitate faculty and student exchanges. 

   - Organize short-term and long-term academic programs and related activities.

♦ Expanding health tourism by increasing licensed medical centers (public, private, and charitable) with International Patient Departments (IPDs) to attract foreign patients.

♦ Admissions and marketing for international students at general, specialized, postgraduate, and short-term program levels, including consular affairs.

♦ Coordinating joint scientific, research, and educational collaborations with target countries (mainly Germany, Austria, South Korea, and Japan).

♦ Leveraging the capacities of international organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO).

♦ Recruiting adjunct faculty members from foreign universities.

♦ Organizing scientific, educational, and research workshops and engaging with international grant-awarding organizations.
