Boasting more than 40 types of minerals, Isfahan Province has the second rank in the number of active mines and the fifth rank in definite storage of minerals in the country. Also, the province is home to the first gold mine and factory in the country, the largest storage of marble and travertine, the first underground mine of Iran, and the third-largest lead and zinc storage. Isfahan Province has also introduced 75 promising zones for precious and semiprecious stones and minerals.
Isfahan's potentials in the mining and minerals industry:
- Possessing more than 2000 stone-cutting units and 400 decorative-stone mines, making the province the main hub of stone industry in the country
- Ranking first in the reserves of marble, travertine, and feldspar in the country
- Ranking first in the production of lead, zinc, dolomite, marble, granite, and Chinese stone in the country
- Ranking second in the production of feldspar, talc, travertine, and marble stone in the country
- The nameplate annual production capacity of 50 million tons of minerals, denoting a share of 6% in the country
- Definite storage of almost 3 billion tons of minerals
- Direct employment of almost 10 thousand people, demonstrating a share of 7% and the 5th rank in the country
Currently, the export of block and processed building stone is almost 150 million dollars annually, but with coherent and regular planning, it can reach an annual amount of one billion dollars. At present, more than 40% of the production and processing of this product takes place in Isfahan Province.
Moreover, Isfahan is a province with enormous potential for the development of geotourism, mineral tourism, and the global registration of geoparks and natural geosites, capable of attracting considerable investments in such fields.
