Shahrestan Bridge

Sunday, 05 January 2025

Shahrestan is the oldest bridge on the Zayandehrud. Its history dates back to the Achaemenid period, yet its current foundation is from the Sasanian era. The bridge underwent repairs during the Dialameh and Seljuk periods, and some sections were added to it.

The bridge was previously known as "Pol-e Gi," but after Islam, it became famous as "Pol-e Ji." The name "Ji" alluded to a large neighborhood in Isfahan near this bridge.

The Remnants of the Jameh Mosque of "Ji," from the Seljuk period, can be viewed around this historical bridge. The old Isfahan castle, known as "Kohandez Saruyeh," can also be found in the vicinity.
