The cities of Isfahan and Kuwait signed a sister-city agreement on Wednesday, 30 Khordad (equivalent to approximately 19 June 2000).

According to IRNA News Agency, this agreement was signed on that Wednesday by Morteza Saghaeian-Nejad, the then mayor of Isfahan, and Abdulrahman Al-Duaij, the acting mayor of Kuwait, in the city of Kuwait.

In Kuwait, the craft industry, metal souvenirs, and commemorative items featuring urban architectural motifs, national symbols, and themes related to official guests are common. For example, a Kuwait souvenir guide notes that metalwork and metal commemorative objects are among the classic gift options.

Kuwait also has traditional markets such as Souq Al-Mubarakiya in Kuwait City, which offers a wide range of handicrafts, metalwork, artistic products, and souvenirs.

The culture of official gift-giving between municipalities and cities in the Persian Gulf has expanded along with the growth of international urban relations and sister-city programs, especially after the 1990s. For instance, in 2007 the Municipality of Kuwait stated that it was “working to implement the provisions of the sister-city agreement with Isfahan.”

شهر اصفهان و شهر کویت در چهارشنبه ۳۰ خرداد ماه (معادل حدود ۱۹ ژوئن سال ۲۰۰۰ میلادی) پیمان خواهرخواندگی امضا کردند.

در خبرگزاری ايرنا آمده است که این قرارداد روز چهارشنبه، با امضای مرتضی سقائیان‌نژاد شهردار وقت اصفهان و عبدالرحمن الدعیج سرپرست شهرداری کویت در کویت به امضا رسید.

در کویت، صنعت صنایع‌دستی و یادبودهای فلزی و سوغات با نقش­‌هایی از معماری شهری، نمادهای ملی، و رابطه با مهمانان رسمی رواج دارد. به‌عنوان مثال، راهنمای سوغات کویت می‌گوید که فلزکاری و اشیاء یادبودی فلزی یکی از گزینه‌های کلاسیک هدیه هستند.

کویت همچنین دارای بازارهای سنتی مانند سوق المبارکیة در کویت سیتی است که مجموعه‌ای از صنایع‌دستی، فلزکاری، محصولات هنری و یادبود را عرضه می‌کند.

فرهنگ هدیه رسمی بین شهرداری‌ها و شهرها در خلیج فارس با افزایش روابط بین‌المللی شهری و برنامه‌های خواهرخواندگی رشد یافته است، به‌ویژه پس از دهه ۱۹۹۰ میلادی. برای نمونه، شهرداری کویت در سال ۲۰۰۷ تصریح کرده که «برای اجرایی شدن مفاد خواهرخواندگی با اصفهان تلاش می‌کنیم».
