The city of Isfahan and the city of Florence in Italy signed a sister-city agreement on September 18, 1998 (18/09/1998).

This agreement was signed by the mayor of Isfahan, Mohammad-Ali Jowadi, and the mayor of Florence, Mario Primicerio.

The purpose of the agreement was to strengthen cultural, social, economic, and artistic relations between the two cities.

The art of medal-making in Italy has deep historical roots; one of its pioneers was Pisanello in the 15th century, who created high-quality medals.

The medal industry continued to flourish in the 19th and 20th centuries as well. For example, the Stefano Johnson S.r.l. institute in Milan, which began operating in 1868, became one of the major centers of medal production.

Medals were typically used for municipal occasions, city celebrations, or for urban and cultural symbolism, and they were often decorated with emblems, coats of arms, or symbols representing a city or its patron.

An example is the “Saint Zeno, Patron of Verona” medal produced for the Municipality of Verona.

Therefore, the creation and gifting of a medal featuring urban or patronal imagery for a sister-city occasion or cultural exchanges is a logical and common practice within the cultural traditions of Europe.

مدال فلز نقره‌ای

شهر اصفهان با شهر فلورانس در ایتالیا در «۱۸ سپتامبر ۱۹۹۸» (۱۸/۰۹/۱۹۹۸) قرارداد خواهرخواندگی امضا کرده است.

این قرارداد توسط شهردار اصفهان، محمدعلی جوادی و شهردار فلورانس، ماریو پرمیمچیریو، به امضا رسیده است.

 هدف قرارداد: تقویت روابط فرهنگی، اجتماعی، اقتصادی، هنری میان دو شهر.

هنر مدال‌سازی در ایتالیا ریشه‌ای دیرینه دارد؛ یکی از پیشگامان آن، پیزانلو (Pisanello) در قرن پانزدهم بود که مدال‌هایی با کیفیت بالا خلق کرد.

صنعت مدال در قرن نوزدهم و بیستم نیز در ایتالیا رشد داشت: به‌عنوان‌مثال، مؤسسه (Johnson S.r.l. Stefano) در میلان که از سال ۱۸۶۸ فعالیت خود را آغاز کرده، یکی از مراکز مهم مدال‌سازی بوده است.

مدال‌ها معمولاً برای مناسبت‌های شهری، شهرداری‌ها، جشن‌ها و یا برای نمادسازی شهری و فرهنگی به کار می‌رفتند و غالباً با نشان‌ها، حُلیت‌ها، یا نمادهایی از شهر یا حامی شهر همراه بودند. مثال: مدال «سنت زنو پاترون ورونا» برای شهرداری ورونا.

بنابراین، اینکه مدالی با نقش شهری – حامی شهری – ساخته شود و هدیه شود برای مناسبت خواهرخواندگی یا مراودات فرهنگی، امری منطقی و متداول در فضای فرهنگی اروپا است.
