The city of Isfahan and the city of Barcelona (in Spain) agreed to a sister-city (twin town / sister city) partnership. According to official sources, this agreement was registered on January 14, 2000 (14.01.2000).

Origins and early periods: The region of Catalonia is known by the name “terrissa catalana.” This handcrafted pottery tradition in the region dates back at least to ancient times and the Roman era.

In the 15th century, semi-industrial production of tiles and ceramics began in Barcelona.

In the 16th century, Spain came under the influence of new ceramic techniques—for example, the tin-glaze technique, which entered Europe and later Spain through Islamic and Moorish Spain.

During the 16th and 17th centuries, Barcelona entered a period of active ceramic production and trade. Archaeological records in Barcelona show that glazed vessels decorated with colorful motifs and techniques imported from Italy were widely produced.
