The art of Maiolica in Italy — a tin-glazed ceramic with a white opaque surface and painted decoration — began around 1350 CE.

This art reached its peak during the 15th and 16th centuries, when cities such as Faenza, Deruta, and regions around Florence and Tuscany became major production centers.

The technique involves first shaping the ceramic body (porcelain or earthenware), then coating it with a white glaze (usually containing tin), applying the painted design, and finally firing it in a kiln.

Works of this type were typically created for display, luxury use, or as gifts, rather than for everyday use.

Therefore, choosing an artistically designed ceramic plate as an official gift—especially within the framework of international cultural relations—is highly appropriate and symbolic.

اصفهان و فلورانس (ایتالیا) در تاریخ ۱۸ سپتامبر ۱۹۹۸ (۱۸٫۹٫۱۹۹۸) توافق خواهرخواندگی را امضاء کرده‌اند.

هنر «مایولیکا» (Maiolica) در ایتالیا، همان سرامیک لعاب آکنده با پوشش سفید (با استفاده از اکسید قلع) و نقاشی روی آن، از حدود سال ۱۳۵۰ میلادی آغاز شد.

این هنر در قرن ۱۵ و ۱۶ میلادی به اوج خود رسید؛ شهرهایی مانند Faenza، Deruta و مناطق اطراف فلورانس و توسکانی، مراکز مهم تولید شدند.

تکنیک به این صورت است که ابتدا جسم سرامیکی (چینی یا سفال) شکل می‌گیرد، سپس با لعاب سفید (معمولاً با قلع) پوشانده می‌شود، نقاشی روی آن اجرا می‌شود و در کوره پخته می‌شود.

آثار این نوع سرامیک معمولاً برای نمایش، لوکس یا هدیه دادن بوده‌اند، نه صرفاً مصرف روزمره.

بنابراین انتخاب یک بشقاب سرامیکی با طراحی هنری برای یک هدیه رسمی، بخصوص در چارچوب روابط فرهنگی بین‌المللی، بسیار متناسب و نمادین است.
